Last night I finally caved in & gave my boys a hair cut! When they start looking like little homeless children (although cute ones) :), I knew it was time. Way overdue in fact!!!!
Now since I have never had any formal training, I try not to psyche myself out every time my 'not so great skills' are called upon. With my husband, I've come to realize that no matter how bad I can mess up, it can always be worse. :):):) Ha ha ha & he knows it. :) I once forgot to put the plastic guard on the clippers & not even paying attention to what I was doing took a huge chunk of hair out of the back of his head, all the way to the scalp :). The 'oh crap' didn't do it justice! I felt so bad! Needless to say, he had a very, very short hair cut, & there was a definite line down the back of his neck! :) And yes Nathan I am still sorry you got so much razzing from the guys @ work!
He has only himself to blame :) Before Nathan, I have never....& I mean never...cut anyone's hair before. My dad once tried to get me to cut his while he was in the Nat'l Guard, when my mom was out of town. But I was so afraid to screw up what little hair he had left :):), that I totally chickened out. I had the scissors & comb in my hands, and I just couldn't do it! Poor guy had to cut his own hair. Sorry dad! So after I married Nathan and he wanted me to cut his hair, I told him NO WAY. But he kept begging me & telling me it doesn't matter, it's only hair, it grows back....So see! It is his fault! :) I will give him credit though...he did a good job of teaching me, but that still doesn't mean I'm comfortable with it. More so now, but still...
So back to cutting my boys hair. Before last night, I have only had Jayden's hair cut once by a girl in a salon (cost the same as my hair cut), & twice by me. The 1st time I cut his was only to cut off the curls in the back of his hair...to which Nathan has still not forgiven me for. :) I'm sorry honey, it did look cute, but it made him look like a girl. And then last year, I buzzed both the boys hair completely off for the summer. Those are the only times I have done anything to their hair.
Let's just say, this time, I am seriously shocked I didn't cut myself or the boys; or worse yet, lose a finger. That & that neither of them ended up with a bald head! Mission accomplished :):) Whoo Hoo!!! Jayden was actually really good, except for the fact the clippers make him extremely gigglish. He was constantly doing the shoulder shrug, anytime they remotely came near him. Tyler on the other hand was a whole new ball game! I don't know if anyone has ever cut an 18 month old's hair before? But let's just say, they should invent a restraining device for just such a case! I finally had to resort to buckling him in Jayden's booster seat, just to stop him from climbing out of the chair. Not only that, but every time he heard the buzzing noise from the clippers, he would immediately duck his head & cover it with both hands, like he was being attacked by bees! So for fear of injury, the clippers were out! Now to actually cut his hair!
I was able to get his mind off of what I was 'attempting to do', for only a short while, by bribing him with toys. But he moved his head so much, it was hit and miss trying to cut actual hair. Mikayla was able to distract him a couple of times also, but I finally had to just gently pin his head against my stomach & block his hands with the same arm I was using to hold his hair with, & hope to heck I didn't go deaf from the piercing screaming in my ear. I seriously should have video taped it. It was a sight to behold! I still can't believe I actually did it! One traumatized baby & basket-case mother later.....Mission Accomplished!!!!! Oh yeh!
Forking out money to have someone else do it next time, sounds so much more appealing now!

Thanks!!! :) I asked Jayden if he liked his new haircut and he said 'I had some stickin' it up hair, didn't I mom?." :)
